The Harp Popper 40F is a small surface lure that imitates an injured baitfish flapping on the top. The cupped face throws water and makes an audible pop, and that noise is what brings fish up — it is a lure you fish by sound as much as by sight.
At 40 mm and 4 g it is sized for perch, chub and asp rather than pike, and it suits a light fast-action rod that can work the lure in short, sharp pulls. Two or three pops, then a pause long enough to let the rings spread: takes almost always come in the quiet.
Best in calm or lightly rippled water, over shallow bars, along reed edges and around harbour structure, from late spring through to autumn when fish are feeding at the surface.
